Futbol and magic came together at the inaugural edition of the Conmebol Magic Cup 2022. Teams from South America and the US came together to showcase the highest level of futbol at our own home, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The tournament was set to start on September 26th and go through until the 30th, but had to be shortened due to the inclement weather from a hurricane that happened throughout the week of the tournament. Nonetheless, only the finals could be played on Friday the 30th where three matches were played.
Palmeiras, Ferroviária, and Liverpool were crowned champions in their team categories and celebrated euphorically after winning the first edition of the tournament. Mickey Mouse himself visited the athletes prior to the matches and they enjoyed every second of it by having pictures taken and autographs handed out by the special guest.
We want to thank Conmebol and Conmebol Evolucion for making this event happen, and hope that it will grow on to become a tradition in the following years by making it even more special each time. We would also like to thank all of the teams that traveled from all over in order to experience this event despite the weather, and also make note of the ones that could not attend, but were still part of the tournament. All in all, it was a great opportunity for athletes to create memories to take back home alongside the friendships they made with the other teams.
The idea of this elite youth tournament came from the leadership and creativity of Cristian Carnero a former Argentine player who today is an expert methodologist, recruiter and sports entrepreneur.
